Can't see paradise - no dashboard lights!

After I replaced the squirter pump my dash lights aren't working. Possibly when I removed the wires from the bad squirter pump and attached them to the new-used one I did *something* that would affect the dash lights.

I can't rule out the dimmer slider as the problem because...the dash lights are out. Idiot lights are working, radio is working, interior and courtesy lights are working. The fuse is good - I swapped it with a different 10a fuse and everything that would have quit working on a dead fuse worked fine. My gear indicator light (auto) is also out, now that I think about it. Speedo backlight (essential whereas the tach and fuel gauge I can live without at night) is dead and I suspect a cop won't give me a by if I plead ignorance of speed due to a black dash.

Per previous posts about this problem I see that I should check the dash wiring mini-harness connections to verify everything is connected properly. But I also see that possibly the "dash control circuit board" has gone bad. I don't think I was anywhere near it when I replaced the squirter pump so I'll assume these things go bad occasionally? If I need to replace this circuit board am I stuck with getting it from the Volvo parts counter? How much should I expect to pay for it?
