Dash Noises V70-XC70

V,

Welcome to the exciting world of the 850/70 series.

There are two reasons for the noise.

1. The 4 bolts securing the dash to the firewall are loose; or
2. The plastic nut retainers on the dash are broken.

First, remove the wiper arms and the 5 screws holding the cowl cover and remove that. You'll see the 4 bolts. You'll have to remove the wiper motor/linkage to tighten the one in front of the steering wheel.

D O N O T O V E R T I G H T E N !!! Only torque to 8-10 pound feet.

In fact, over tightening is the reason that these mounts break.

If that doesn't stop the noise then check the archives. There are great write-ups on repairing the broken mounts.

Also, Matthew's Volvo Site has good instructions.

Enjoy,
Bryan
