engine compression V70-XC70 1998

I've been getting the CEL code for front O2 sensor slow response. The first thing the blue books says to check is the engine compression. I got 175 psi in cyl. 1, 2 & 3, but 80 & 90 in 4 & 5. This was with the engine cold, so I drove it a few miles and checked it hot -- 175 each cylinder! Anyone know why there is a difference, and could this mean the head gasket is about to go? The coolant and oil look normal. I've had the car since new and it has never overheated. 1998 V70 non-turbo 5-speed 268K miles.
