95 850 Automatic transmission trouble 850 1995

95 850GLT Non-turbo. 155k miles. Accelerating hard out of a stop while turning, tranny stopped working. If I try to put it in gear, any gear, I hear a dull clunking. If the engine is raced and I try to shift while the RPMs are fairly low but still dropping the clunk is a grind. Only symptom before failure was I notice it slipping occasionally in turns. Is the tranny shot or could it be something less?
