Trouble Filling Gas Tank S70 1998

Twice within the last week, I have gone to fill up my gas tank, stuck the nozzle in and started pumping only to have the pump shut off after about 1/2 gal. I pull the nozzle out and there is gas that's backed up. I try it again and it does the same thing at different angles, pressures, etc. The two different times were at two different gas stations too. Is there any reason that the gas would be building/backing up like this? I'd appreciate any help I could get.

-Kent
