front brake click noise 850 1995

I recently acquired a 1995 850. When I apply the brakes the fronts make a sudden click, one right after the other. The passanger side is when applied moderately and the drivers side takes a bit more pressure usually. Anybody got any idea what might cause this before I go out in the cold morning air and start pulling every thing apart?

Thanks all for your anticipated cooperation,

Mitch

PS- The dashboard rattles too. The side screws inside the vent area are in place, but at the windshield it appears to be loose. Are there screws possibly missing if I take it all apart? Does it snap in at the firewall? Any info before I dig into that would be greatly appreciated also.

Thanks again
