No start, hazards on, confusing problem! 850 1997

Sorry I haven't been on the board for a while...soccer coaching and teaching in the way of things!

Anyways, my wife was driving our 1997 850 home from work and it died mid-intersection (of course). When I got there and had a look at it, the negative battery cable was not connected to the quick disconnect terminal I have there. "Yay!" I think, "finally an easy fix!"

Yeah right. I hook the cable back up (after removing the quick disconnect) and try to start it. The hazard lights start going as soon as I turn the key to first position, independent of the hazard switch. A different relay than the hazard switch is running them and will not stop. The starter doesn't even click (new starter).

I tested the battery: 8.75 volts. Alright, bad battery. Bought a new battery. Put it in. Still, when the battery is hooked up, any use of electricity, even opening a door, trips the hazard lights and they won't turn off until I disconnect the battery. The starter won't go either.

The car runs fine if I pop the clutch to start it while moving, though the hazards won't shut off.

I'm a little baffled. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Nate
