Clutch or hydraulics? 850 1997

I have the 5 speed manual. Noticed that it's been getting difficult to get the shifter into the respective gears - particularly first and second. Also, the clutch has been engaging higher up in the pedal travel than before. It used to engage about halfway up, but now the pedal is almost back to its original position when it engages. Any thoughts on what this could be?
