98 S70 auxiliary fan comes on even when freezing cold S70 1998

I've noticed a couple times lately that my temp gauge is running a bit low while operating, and was thinking I'd replace the thermostat. But today when I got out of my car I noticed the electric fan was still running after I shut the car off - it was 14 degrees F. While I was in the process of disconnecting the connection to the relay (mounted at the top of the radiator on the engine side, hanging from the plastic shroud) to save the battery the fan shut off before I made any disconnections.

I'll replace the thermostat anyway, but is this likely a problem with the relay or a sending unit somewhere? I don't mind replacing a couple parts whithout knowing for sure which the culprit is because I imagine they're all original anyway.

Any thoughts/help much appreciated!

Scott
