850 Heated seats wiring question 850

I have two questions regarding the heat seats of an 850. My sedan (without power seats) had the wiring frayed. I have cut and re-connected twice before and now it seems the wiring is to short. My question is what type of wire should I use to splice with a connector to the seat element? Any special type of wire? I have wire from a power antenna I replaced on another car but that hot wire is not copper like the hot wire on the Volvo seat heater. Can I use that wire to splice?

Also, my passenger side was looked at by the dealer last spring and they said the "thermostat" under the seat was bad. I can't see up under the seat so I was hoping someone could let me know what this part is. I was told that it was a small item ($10-20) and it seems like it is round and connects somehow to the heat element. I can't find any any diagrams on the web so that is why all the dumb questions. Thanks.
