Diesel heater won´t start V70-XC70 2004

Car is a 2.4 D(iesel) with diesel engine pre-heater (runs on fuel to pre-heat engine and passenger compartment; for reduced fuel consumption and for the benefit of passenger comfort). Now, this guy just suddenly won´t start (normally done by setting time in info window in left-hand side of instr panel). The "warning triangle" between main instruments also briefly flashes it´s exclamation mark, nothing else happens, no obvious fault codes, nothing.

The fuse in the regular fuse panel under hood is ok. Is there any way of getting fault ocdes without OBD reader, for this? Is the glow coil/stick a goner, and is it easy to replace? Car has about 120 k miles on ODO.
