Air Pump Question 850

Hey Everyone:

That purple vacuum line went to the secondary air injection line...that bell shaped device at the back of the motor that goes to the air pump to supply extra air into the head for emmissions reasons.....the bell shaped thing has a metal hose that connects into the top of the head....

Question is...I don't hear the air pump whir up on cold days anymore. Does this thing have any function other than supplying extra air on cold days? I see used ones on ebay are still really pricey and I'm sure my cateyletic convertor doesn't work anymore anyway....

Replace or not?
