Ignition Switch? V70-XC70 2003

Is there any chance a wiring harness got damaged, or overheated? I read on a different forum where an owner was seeing some fairly strange things no one could relate to. Turned out his harness had overheated, and was shorting out inside causing all kinds of strange things. I make mention of this in case there is something you might remember like an accident and this is after the repair, or the one time smell of wiring burning. Klaus however has the more logical probability of why, so I would start there 1st unless you can relate to the above.
