interfearence engine S80

The "older" single overhead cam four cylinder engines, like those found in the 240, 740, and 940 models, are non-interference engines. These are the "red block" engines.

The newer dual overhead cam engines are interference engines. They come in four, five and six cylinder configurations in the S/V40, 850 and S/V70, and 960 and S80 models. These are the "white block" engines.

Any front wheel drive Volvo will have an interference engine.
