Broken hood release / dead battery V70-XC70 2002

2002 V70.

We had about -20 in St. Paul last night. I went to start the car this morning and the battery didn't have enough juice to get it going. Jump start - no big deal, right? I pulled on the hood release level inside the car and it gave some resistance, then popped all the way back, clearly broken as the mechanism was probably frozen shut.

So...any tips for opening that hood so I can jump the battery? I've seen some tips on here for different models and years, but nothing for an 01+ V70.

Thanks,
Dave
