Smoke box? S70

I have a 98 S70 with over 260,000 Kms on the clock. She runs fabulous except for a little oil consumption. My mechanic tells me I need to replace the "smoke box" which is apparently part of the emission control system. He says this is what is causing my oil consumption.

What exactly is a "smoke box"? The only thing I can come up with is a breather box? It is supposedly part of the EGR system.

Any input on what a smoke box is would be appreciated. And where is this thing located on the motor?
