Off topic question about vinyl fuel line

I have a non-Volvo (but Ford) question about working with flexible 3/8" and 5/16" vinyl fuel lines near the fuel tank.

Has anyone ever spliced this stuff with a barb? I have worked with thick rubber lines, but never this product. I'm wondering if I can repair the same way - use a barb and regular screw head fuel clamps.

This repair is on an old truck. I suppose using compression clamps attached with a tool would be better in this application, but if this technique works at all I think the screw type should work.

Thoughts?
