Is there an AWD 850???? 850 96

I am looking for an AWD Volvo Wagon and someone in Denver claims to have a 1996 Volvo 850 AWD Wagon (auto) and I was under the impression that Volvo did not introduce an AWD wagon until the 70 Series. Am I worng? Or could this person really have an AWD 850?!?!?! If so, is an 850 AWD as good as a V70 AWD?????
