Security System Indicator 850 1996

I notice that the OEM security system includes an LED mounted on the cowl that shows when it is armed. I have an after-market system but would like to use the same indicator. Also, the plug I have in the mounting space keeps popping up so I'd like to put something else there.

Anyone have experience with this? Can the LED be purchased separately, is it reasonably easy to connect to another system, are there compatibility problems?
