Check Engine Light/Micro Switch 850 1996

I took my volvo 850R in for diagnosis of:

1. Why the shift lock switch on gear changer did not work;

2. Why the check engine light is on.

I was told that the check engine light is on because I have a vacuum hose leak behind the intake manifold. Although the part was only $25, the dealer wanted $250 to repair. Is this something I can do myself?

With respect to the shift lock, I was told that I have a bad microswitch. Again, the dealer wants a couple of hundred to repair. Is this something I can do myself?

Please help.
