P0172 code S70

I got the 172 code also on my '97 850. Turns out it was the lousy air pump that was flooded (water accumulates in the pump). Replaced the pump and check valve - pump located below the battery on a '97, but they moved it on later models. Same thing happened, same code reappeared. So I drilled a 1/8" hole in the bottom of the air pump, the water drained, and presto - no code for the past few years.

For grins I did an autopsy on the old pump - massive rust caused the rotor to bind and the electric motor to freeze up.

Pulled my hair out figuring out this one.

Good luck
