Installing an aftermarket ATF cooler for tranny 850 1995

Hi all,

Wondering whether anyone has installed an aftermarket tranny (fluid) cooler in their 850/S/V/70 ???

After reading a number of essays and brickboard posts, I thought it might be wise to install one on mine, so I have purchased a "drivetech" Canadian unit. The thing is, the hose that is supplied with it is only about 1/4 inch inside diameter (and about 1/2" ID). This presents some obvious probs with installation into the ATF line on the 850, being about 1/2" ID.

Two main questions;

1. Could anyone see a problem with the possible reduced flow rate of the cooler since the lines are about 1/4" ID - would it be significant? The unit I purchased is the large model, meant for cars over 4000 cc's - though all the models were the same thickness of coolant hose. (I figure that the more cooling on these "POS Aisin" trannies (to quote another recent thread) the better.)

2. Any tricks or tips on installing this unit into the ATF line? (I thought that one way might be to cut the upper or lower line altogether and try to find some 1/2" male to 1/4" male brass conduit fittings that will reduce the 1/2" ID larger line to the 1/4" ID smaller one on the cooler, and hose-clamp the lot securely. Easier ways?)

Thanks in advance
