All of a sudden, car turns over but will not start 850 1996

Hello. Have referred to this site from time to time, as I've owned mostly Volvos to date. Not ever posted before, though.

I have a 1996 850. I drove it as recently as Sunday. Yesterday when I went to start it, I got all the internal power, and when I turned the ignition, it turned over like it was ready to start, but never actually fired up and started. I tried for a minute or so and then just used our other vehicle.

I tried later in the afternoon, and it actually started, but then quickly died. RPMs quickly died off and it then did the same thing it had done in the morning (rolled over, but did not start).
