The NA engine has a thermostat controlled vane in the air box. It is supposed to close the "warm" air vent. Verify that it is in fact closed, many have just jammed it closed so that the AMM stays cooler.
The reason the code isn't set, is because the ECU reset some other parameters and corrected the problem.
