Re: Fog Lights 850 1995

Davo--I don't recall there being three empty openings for relays at the top of the relay board. It's been a while since I did mine. What I recall was being on my back across the seat, shoulders on the floorboards, mini-mag in my mouth, wrist bent the wrong way, trying to get that cursed cube in the far upper left hand opening which I couldn't see. There are extra openings lower down on the board, but the OEM lights I installed and the Volvo instructions that came with them, said to install the J relay in the described position. However, another person I corresponded with via the BB had the exact same problem, and he finally got some additional information from someone about jumpering a wire between some of the empty slots for power. My car is a 97 GLT LPT wagon, and Volvo may have wired it differently than yours. Go to the BB archives for this month, and type in fog lights and you will come into my discussion and the person called Erlend (who is living here in Norway). Look for his last correspondence about getting power to his foglights. I can't believe you would have to jumper between a couple of empty relay slots to do this, but you might ask him which ones he used. To answer your question, yes, it is the "J" relay module that you need. I don't know what this relay does exactly, but I would guess it keeps your fog lights from coming on when you're on high beam. If you haven't checked that on your car, do it. They're only meant to come on when you're using low beam. Hope this has been some help. Dick
