The newer the car, the harder it is to maintain. That is mostly due to the electronics and less space in the engine compartment.
FWD cars don't have a center carrier bearing on the propshaft, but everything is done by the front wheels.
If you go back to the 1980's, there will not be ABS or air bags.

The 1994-5 850 are fairly easy to work on, so long as the rear main seal doesn't have to be replaced. They have onboard diagnostics, but an AC evaporator placement that rivals the 240 heater blower. Working on a 960 is not that much fun, in my book.
