AC questions 850

The AC doesn't work in my 1996 850. Yesterday I bought a recharge kit. When I hooked up the pressure gauge, it was at zero. I filled up the system to about 50psi. When it got to around 40, I think the compressor turned on. I was excited that the AC would then be working, sadly, it just blows hot air. Both the high and low pressure lines exiting the firewall feel very warm.

Does it sound like the evaporator is bad or might there be some other problem?
