Now you know why we always say NEVER TOUCH the reflective material. Paint won't work, it isn't smooth enough. You will need a new headlamp.
Scour the local junkyards or call Erievovo for a used one, lense included.

It sounds like one of the two openings in the back of the assembly are missing, a new one will have both of them and they are there to keep dust out.
