2002 S60 Temperature sensor haywire!/Software update? S60 2002

I have a 02 s60 base (non-turbo, non AWD). I've been having problems intermittently with the check engine light coming on. Took it to my mechanic, he said that it was the temperature sensor in front of the radiator. (My car was a car he fixed from an accident (I am assuming in the front)). My question is...is there a software update for the s60 that I am not aware of? If so how much would it cost to update and WILL IT FIX the problem?
