ECU redux 850 1994

My car's check engine light keeps on coming on. It first had the evap code 315 come on, and I've had the gas cap replaced and the evap purge valve replaced. That took care of that code. Then it came on again, with a 433 code (knock sensor), so I had that replaced. I posted to the list after that, saying that it came right back on for the dealer, and they said that it was the ECU that needed to be replaced for about $1200-$1500. I recieved a lot of good advice from everyone, saying I should check it myself, etc.

Well, since my last postings, I've checked the error codes again, and it keeps on coming up 4-3-3 on the A2 port. I reset the check engine light once, and it came back on within 3 days. It also reset itself once, and came on again. I called the loser mechanic at the dealer, and he said that he'd managed to find a rebuilt ECU for $300, and he would charge $200 labor to put it in. I think I could probably do it myself, so now the question comes of whether I should find a rebuilt ECU, buy a new stock one, or put in a tuner ECU. Any input? Any place I should go to get any of the three? And how can I avoid spending too much more money if the mechanic is wrong about it being the ECU?

Thanks!

Ken
