new wheels rubbing inner fender? 850 1996

I put on a new pair of wheels this weekend, a set of Moda R6 17.x7.5 wrapped in 215/45/17 Falken Ziex ZE-502 M+S tires. I didn't expect there to be any rubbing or interference, but to my surprise I found that the front tires would rub up against the top of the inner wheel well when cornering hard or hitting larger dips. Is this normal for a 1996 854 R? This is only slightly larger than the stock wheel/tire combo. Could it be a faulty suspension? Or is this a typical case, and should I look into purchasing a suspension system with a high dampening rate? Any info & suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
