Re: Minimum Octane Requirement? 850 1993

Don't want to burst any bubbles, but I bought my 93 GLT - 5 speed (non-turbo) in 96, and used "regular" gas for 3 years. After cracking an exhaust valve - actually, part of the valve head just disappeared, I presume to lodge somewhere in the exhaust system, which is still original to the car (and changing all 20 valves and guides while the head was off), I switched to the premium gas as recommended in the manual. Car's peppier - and so far, no further hints of another valve job. Might have been just a flaw in the original valve, but for the extra couple of hundred dollar/year in the premium fuel, it's much cheaper than another valve job. I consider it cheap insurance.

BTW, car now has 212k km on it, and is running just fine.
