Actually, I figured it out after I wrote the original note. All you have to do is push the odometer reset button and hold it while you turn the ignition to II position. Continue to hold it for ~10 seconds until the light starts to flash. Next, either release the button and turn the ignition off or turn the ignition off and then release the button, I can't remember which. One of those procedures works. I guess I'm getting that old age disease where you forget things, I just can't remember what its name is.

No special tools needed.
