Drive Belt Tensioner 850 1997

I need some great ideas for a drive belt tensioner tool to aid in removing the drive belt. My 1/2 breaker bar won't fit in that hole. Give me some ideas. I think I remember someone mentioning using a 5/8" pipe plug. Or a 2"x5/8" metal strip with a cresent wrench. Can't bring myself to buy the tool from IPD to use one every 60K. Any suggestions??

Also - is it recommended to clean/oil the tensioner in any manner while the belt is off??

Thanks in advance.
