Brake pads -- worn at 23,000 miles. Boy am I po'ed S40-V40 2000

I'd hate to say that the brake pads are awfully soft in the S40. 23,000 miles and the front and rears are already 90% gone. The customer service people say that it is a safety feature that the pads are so soft that they increase the braking power of the car. Bullcrap - my VWs stopped quite quickly (1993 VW Passat being most recent) and the pads lasted 60 or 80,000 miles.

Thanks for letting me vent. Volvo is not budging on covering the pads at all, considering them a wear item only. If it wasn't costing me $170 on each end of the car, I'd say ok, but their service rates are outrageous to boot. Next time the local guy gets my car, for sure.
