Tailgate latch stuck - help needed V70-XC70 2001

The tailgate latch on my 2001 V70 T5 is stuck. I tried my other key remote to eliminate a possible key remote problem, and can confirm that the latch is indeed stuck. I realized to my dismay, that there is no fallback method for opening the latch (no cable release or manual keyhole). Any suggestions on how to open the hatch before I visit the dealer?
