Groan / resonating suspension noise S70 98

I'm getting a metalic groaning sound on my 98 S70 T5M when

I accelerate (moderatly) from a stop. At first, I only heard while

pulling away and turning right; now I hear it when pulling away

and going straight. Initially, it went away quickly after the car

was driven a couple miles; now it is "hanging around" longer.

If I push the clutch in right as I start to hear it the sound

stops. But, I don't think it is clutch related. I think the

sound is induced by the weight shift as the car accelerates.

Possibly some component is being moved up and rubs/resonates.

I suspect a suspension component but would like any clues as to

what components to check (will have a look this weekend). Only

other recent problem is a slight tear starting in the rubber for

the upper motor mount (very small) (probably not associated but

worth mentioning since it could be allowing the engine to move

a bit).

Car has 40K miles, 205/55 R16 tires (no signs of rubbing in the

wheel wells) and no history of suspension problems.

Thanks in advance.
