Charlie just resolved this problem myself. The solution that was suggested to me as a more permanent fix worked quite well. I used a Dremel type rotary tool and ground down the two "stops" that are on the cast aluminum part of the wiper arm. These stops are located right by where the wiper is hinged. Just take some material off of these stops and it allows for the wiper to sit further down on the windshield. Worked like a charm for me.
