A/C issues 850 1996

Hello all-

While at home during a recent weekend, I had the opportunity to drive my '96 850 (86k miles) around for a while. However, when I turned the a/c on, I noticed something strange in the way it sounded. I also noted these two things: 1) The air wasn't as cold as it was in past years, and 2) I could hear the compressor unit cycling on and off repeatedly, like every 5-7 minutes. I know when the unit turns itself on and off like that because I can hear a slight clicking noise.

What do you think it is? Could it be the evaporator, compressor, or just in need of a recharge? I'm hoping it's not the evaporator because I know how much of a pain it was on my original '93 850. The climate control unit is the manual version, not the automatic one from the GLT/Turbo.
