engine missing V70-XC70 2001

Why do you suspect the cat? Never heard of one causing a missfire.
If check engine is on there is a fault code, the code will be a pointer to the problem.

I may be wrong but seem to remember reading somewhere that if the check engine is flashing that means STOP, farther driving may cause damage.
