Re: Washing engine, "CHECK ENGINE" light came on. Learn from me. V70-XC70 1998

I don't agree. I wash the engine on my 97 960 after every major servie, it almost looks like new/. I just did my 2001 V70 2.4T (living in the desert it gets dusty very fast) after it's 7500 mile.

If done right......prep electrics with some silicone spray, warm up the engine first (not too hot), and keep it running while you power wash (avoid electrics still) , it can actually imprive the life of the engine and makes detecting leaks and problems a lot easier. Todays engines while more computerized and thus sensative to water, are also not effected by shock cooling or water leaking into parts as much as engines of yesteryear. Also, my mechanic loves working on my car and tells me that he too washes his engine once every three months or so.

Don't forget the inderside of the car as well. The quarter operated power washes are the best for that.

Take care, and wash carefully.

Sam
