Fuel odor after startup (or, the cursed Volvo) 850 1994

Latest exciting problem:

About a minute after startup, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, sometimes never, I start smelling a fuel smell through the vents. I've smelled the exhaust (carefully) and the engine, and I don't smell fuel. The smell goes away after about 2 minutes, and the car drives fine throughout. The check engine light (miracle of miracles) is not on right now. Any ideas about what's going on here?

Thanks,

Ken
