2003 V70 AWD V70-XC70 2003

I have had my new V70 for a couple of months now and it is great, kinda of miss my old 940 though, anyway my question is there are a couple of times in the last week or so when I engage reverse and start to back up there feels like there is resistance in the transmission almost like the parking brake is still on even though it is not. I think I may have noticed this problem once before about a month ago after being parked at the airport for about a week when i went to reverse there was a loud pop, i thought i had run over a can or something but there was nothing under the tires. The bevel gear was replaced right before I bought the car is it possible it needs an adjustment, I need to take the car to the dealer in the next month to get the timing belt replaced (it is a little more than I think I can handle, especially as I continue to try and familiarize myself with the V70). i usually don't use reverse as my normal work parking lot allows me to pull right out in the evening when leaving, have had to park in garage over last week do to influx of visitors an work.

Thanks for any advice,

Miles
