Noisy AC

When I took it in for strut work I asked if we should check the AC even though it's blowing nice and cold. He said don't touch it (as in don't wake it up and get it angry). It appears that just talking about it within earshot can have an effect. I'm getting a noise from under the hood after the AC has been on a little while. It stops when I turn the AC switch off and returns a few minutes after switching it on. Sound familiar? compressor? clutch? belt? I don't know how much bad news I can take right now, so be gentle. I also have the horn to repair still, a noisy muffler, the clear coat failing on the roof, and that rattle in the dash that I now think might be in the door. Other than that I keep the car in good clean shape and can still hold off on an upgrade for a while. Oh, and I have kidney stones.
Thanks!
