Klaus,
I had my private garage replace the sun visor. I would go and purchase the part and they would replace it. On one occassion, (the time before last when it was replaced) my mechanic pointed out after he already installed the new visor that the job required him to remove the panel that covers the "A" pillar on the driver's side. When you take the new visor out of the box you see a long electric cord that has two prongs at the the end. This cord runs down the length of the "A" column where it plugs into a power source.
There must be some electrical fault or short circut because I'm skeptical (now saying this in hind sight) that both bulbs burned out simultaneously each time I replaced the visor. It's only because this visor has been replaced 3 times that I now suspect the problem is not related to the bubls or the contact switch. The bulbs in the new visor work initially, but again, fail about a year later. This time they stopped working after less than 3 months after the installation of a new visor.
With this chronic problem I was hoping other people had experienced this problem and could offer advice on how to remedy it, short of buying another visor each time (which even with a significant discount still costs in excess of $70 each).
Klaus, even if you don't have an answer, I still appreciate you getting back to me.
Hugh
