ABS/TRACS Dash Lights V70-XC70 1998

These light appear once in a while on the dash. They may stay on for awhile or be off as soon as I start moving (thus hard to catch with a OBD-II code reader by the mechanic). I'm aware of the ABS module (expensive) may cause this. My question is this, are there things I can check first before I go through this expense, just in case it is a simple problem?
