crack in block - abandon all hope? 850 1997

My 1997 850 GLT LPT with about 180,000 miles has had a slow coolant leak we couldn't find. Finally today I gave the green light to my very reliable indy mechanic to pull some stuff off the front of the engine to see if it is the head gasket. He just called with the bad news: "the case is cracked. Never seen it before. Either corrosion or a flaw. the engine is toast."

I've had the car since 1998 and it is been a great car but apparently now it is RIP. Any thoughts? Since the leak is slow, perhaps drive awhile longer but don't go too far from home?
