The U shaped catch is the brace but you will either need to buy both the latch and the brace or you will need to repair the latch. You can repair the latch with a small machine screw. There was a good writeup with pictures but the site that was hosting the pictures went away.

If you do decide to just order a new latch give either Jamie or Don a call at Darrell Waltrip Volvo. (800) 689-0021. They are typically 30 to 40% less than other vendors on OEM parts.
