Alarm Notification V70-XC70 2001

I had the same problem plus the right front door unlocked at will.

The siren mod. is in the right front fender(Mathewsvolvosite). The batteries leak at about seven or eight years. Remove the plastic wheel well lining and look forward. You will see a metal bracket with a box inside that is 3 x 4 inches. See the mounting bolt, it is a one way smooth head. Raise the hood and find the threaded end. I used channel lock pliers to turn the nut from the eng. compartment. I then unpluged the siren and opened it. The batteries has just started to leak and a small portion of the board was affected. The good news: when the siren was unpluged. my problems went away. The new part is about $175.

I removed the batteries, cleaned the board and reinstalled the unit using a 10mm bolt to hold the bracket in place. every thing works fine.

I also needed to remove the door panel on the passenger door and clean the linage and switches with WD-40. The micro switch was the second problem.

I understand from the Matthews volvo site that the 7.2v memory battery in the siren will cause a great deal of damage to the board and cause problems with the power windows, sunroof, etc.
I think unpluging the siren and seeing if your problem goes away is the simple soln. Who is going to steal an 8 year old volvo wagon! Besides the transponder in the key is the best insurnace.

I hope this helps.
