a revving idle?? 850 1993

Pull off the air cleaner and check for critters. You could have multiple problems, or just one. The "IAC" or idle air control could be sticking, there could be a leak in the air duct from the cleaner to the throttle body, the fuel pressure regulator could be a problem.

But, I agree. Let the engine warm up a little and then drive it and let the engine get hot. Pour on the coal and blow out some carbon.

Starting an engine and letting it idle for 15 minutes, just to shut it down again is BAD for the engine. If you are not going to drive it for a month or two, fill the gas tank and disconnect the battery.
